What's your attachment style?

This test shows how you show up in relationships: what makes you anxious, what you guard against, and what you lean on. It's built on the two-factor model of attachment: anxiety and avoidance, the two dimensions the modern science of relationships rests on.

About the attachment style test

A free attachment style quiz built on the two-factor model of attachment, used by psychologists around the world since 1998.

What the test shows

Attachment style is a stable way of behaving in relationships: how you respond to closeness, to distance, to uncertainty. Attachment theory was created by psychologists John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth in the mid-20th century, and its modern form — two independent scales, anxiety and avoidance — took shape by the late 1990s.

It's not a diagnosis, but a guide: it shows your style in relationships and what lies behind your habitual reactions.

What the test measures

  • Dimension 1

    Anxiety

How much you worry about the strength of the bond, need reassurance of closeness, and fear being rejected or coming second.

  • Dimension 2

    Avoidance

How uncomfortable too much closeness and dependence feels — whether you tend to keep your distance, rely on yourself, and hold your innermost self back.

The four attachment styles

  • Secure

At ease both in closeness and alone: can ask for support and offer it in return. Roughly 55–60% of people are wired this way.

  • Anxious

Relationships are the most important and most vulnerable part of life: lots of worry about the bond and a need for reassurance that all is well.

  • Avoidant

Relies on themselves above all: too much closeness feels like pressure, and the urge is to restore a comfortable distance.

  • Fearful-Avoidant

Drawn to closeness and afraid it will turn into pain: relationships feel like a swing — reaching out one moment, pulling away the next.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from other attachment tests online?

It's built on the two-factor model of attachment (anxiety × avoidance) — the same one the modern science of relationships rests on. It doesn't reduce you to a single label; it shows both dimensions and how pronounced each one is.

Can this result be used as a diagnosis, or is the type final?

No. It's not a medical diagnosis and not a verdict. Your attachment style is a guide — a description of a habitual pattern, not something fixed for life. It can shift over time and show up differently in different relationships.

How long does the test take, and do I need to sign up?

16 statements, about 4 minutes. No registration, email, or payment required — the test is free and anonymous, and you see your result right after finishing.

What should I do with the result?

An attachment style is a script, and it can be understood and gradually changed. A good place to start is seeing how it plays out in your own relationships. A free session with Mira, the AI therapist, helps with exactly that: in one conversation you'll see what's behind your habitual reactions and map out a first step.
